Sitting across the desk from myself is a man who, although brand new to the retail business, is extremely excited about the future of his new store, Eden’s Apple ‘N’ Leather.  When Don was asked about how things have been going so far, he said, “I take it day by day.  I’m excited by every new day that we move forward with this venture.  My vision is that I want to have the coolest and yet down to earth store in Swift Current.”

Don and his partner Tammy have spent the past year looking for the perfect location to turn their dream into a reality.  Although Don is new to retail, he is not new to entrepreneurship.  He previously owned three turbo stations in Calgary and a trucking company with six trucks.  Retail, however is a new venture and an exciting one for Don, Tammy, and their store manager Brianna.

Don, owner of Eden’s Apple ‘N’ Leather, said, “I was a truck driver for 25 years and felt I wanted a lifestyle change.  All a guy does behind the wheel is think and drive so I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to do.”  Don is the current President of the Saskatchewan Lonewolves (SKLW), a motorcycle riding club that is family oriented and extends its membership across the province of Saskatchewan.

Don says he believes in the biker community in Swift Current, “A lot of people say bikers are bad, but if you think about it we do a lot of charity work and take part in many charity events.  We are always working to raise money for our communities and give back.”

Don and his partner wanted to buy an established business and when the previous owner of Eden’s Apple was looking to sell, the timing worked out perfectly.  Previously there was no motorcycle apparel available in Swift Current.  Don says that the surrounding area holds between one thousand and two thousand riders.  His desire is to run a hopping store to provide these individuals, as well as new budding riders, with the products and services they need.  “So far riders have expressed that they’re pumped there is a store here where they can shop instead of riding to a big city to find what they need.” Don stated.

Ultimately, Don is happy to be following his dream of owning a local retail business that meets a need in his community.  Eden’s Apple ‘N’ Leather will be hosting their grand opening on Friday, March 27, 2015 at noon.  They are inviting the community to come and check out their establishment at 329 Central Avenue North for cake, coffee and prizes throughout the day.  SKLW members will receive 20% off leather apparel.

It is because of entrepreneurs like Don who take a chance investing in their own community that we see our community growing and thriving.
