SWIFT CURRENT, October 19, 2009/ CHAMBERNewswire/ -- Small Business Week is a national annual celebration and in many Saskatchewan communities, an opportunity to recognize the importance of the small business community to our local, regional and national economies, their contribution and dedication to its developments.
The City Centre of downtown has changed its look of years ago with new businesses opening, businesses returning and the investment of significant funds for expansion, increasing services offered, and renovation of their buildings. Increased traffic flow and the location of the big service businesses, their employees and increased foot traffic is important to the city centre businesses and has created a domino effect of owners renovating their store fronts.
Although the city centre is thriving so is the rest of the city. Both independent and national businesses have completed expansion and new construction projects in the north east district, shopping malls have seen growth in retail outlets and services provided, and new residential lot developments have eased the short term housing shortage.
‘Small business make up the majority of the business in Swift Current" says Jason Regier, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, ‘In our survey of members we learned that small business invest heavily into making their businesses and our community a success. Our small business owners are concerned about taxes, employee retention and require our community to support their businesses.’
‘Small business owners and their employees put a lot of time in their businesses so that they can provide their customers with a service or product that they can buy locally. I think that highlighting small businesses this week is a great way to inform the public that small business is the back bone of our community,’ says Curtis Wiebe, Vice Chair.
The theme of Small Business Week 2009, ‘Your dream, your business, your passion,’ reflects the energy and efforts of Canadian entrepreneurs of all ages and pays tribute to their important contribution to the strength of the economy.
