Chamber of Commerce Offers Support for Schools of Opportunity
Schools of Opportunity are those schools in a community that may see an increase in enrolment within one year’s time due to economic developments. The School of Opportunity proposal, submitted to the minister, must be in writing and must demonstrate an economic plan that could result in increased enrolment at the school by the end of the second school year following the year of designation.Chamber President, Shauna Fjaagesund, feels ‘this is a step in the right direction, with the Minister of Education recognizing that Saskatchewan is experiencing tremendous growth. It is important to allow these communities due time to adjust and plan for future sustainability in an effort to increase enrolment. Now is the time to be proactive and optimistic that all rural communities will grow and thus make a strong southwest region.’
The Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce is presently able to assist communities interested in submitting the Schools of Opportunity proposal by providing an electronic proposal document, as a template, in addition to providing the Letter of Support. Requests should be directed to the Chamber office by telephone (306)773.7268.
